A straight trade witnessed today with a very big sale pending next week.

Sale today consisted of mainly aged Ewes with an even spread of Mule, Continental & Hill Ewes.

Topping the market today was a pen of 1 crop Mule Ewes with Twins from NA Allen, Windermere making £355. Mules were certainly the most sought after breed today specifically when they had well grown, classy lambs.
Like the previous week, the number of Hill Ewes is increasing with a large entry of Herdwicks available. Trade for these was similar to the previous week with sheep making between £60 to £70 per life depending on age, strength and quality.

SPRING LAMBS

Spring Lambs Still Bouncing

The strong trade for spring lambs at J36 continued today, topping at £243 for a pen of five from Messers RJ Stott. Messers D & DW Prickett topped the PPK section at 536PPK for Texels weighing 41kg.Others from this same good home hit 533.3PPK while Suffolks topped at £234 from Messers E Needham. Overall Average of 450 PPK.
Hoggs also continues to hold up well for the well-fed types with heavies still adding up nicely. Texels topped at £254 from Messers PJ & MR Stuart for a pen of four, Suffolks reached £246 from Messers M Rendell. Messers M & YS Barker had texels sell to £244 and £240 for seven in number. A trio of Texels from Messers PJ & MR Stuart hit 443 ppk and a further single to the same price. Continential from Messers Harrison hit 440ppk. Cheviots topped at 410ppk from Barker Farms and Scotch Blackfaced hit 440ppk for 16 in number from Cardwell Farms LTD. Another late season show however an all in overall average of 370 ppk.

CAST EWES

An increased entry of ewes forward today with trade for the best goods every bit as sharp.

Texel cross ewes from Messers Rogerson, Appleby lead the way at £254 with plenty of the strongest £200 plus. Mules and Mashams to £184 from Messers Gibson & Berry, Endmoor, with Cheviots topping the ewes at £182 courtesy of GM Metcalfe, Underbarrow. Horned ewes to £167 for Swales from Drinkall Brothers, Lancaster with the best of these £120 plus.
